Aalen, March 2025 – It is not the norm for transport companies to specify the lashing points on heavy-duty modules. August Alborn GmbH & Co. KG from Dortmund, Germany, is different: Managing Director Helmut Alborn has been relying on RUD for decades and also insisted on lashing points from Aalen, Germany, when equipping a new Scheuerle platform trailer for loads of over 400 tonnes – to be more precise: the company relies on ACP-TURNADO models.
Transporting rail vehicles, transformers or system components safely to their destination: with its Scheuerle K25 L platform trailer, heavy transport specialist August Alborn GmbH & Co. KG has big plans. The low bed heavy-duty module can carry over 400 tonnes of weight and, thanks to its large track width, offers around 10 percent more stability and therefore significantly more safety than comparable standard models on the market. However, safety is not only a top priority for Alborn in the selection of transport vehicles – the Dortmund-based company also makes no compromises when it comes to lashing equipment for load securing. Managing Director Helmut Alborn has therefore been relying on RUD for decades. “High-quality load securing equipment is standard,” says the entrepreneur, who is the fourth generation to manage his family business. “As a long-standing partner, RUD knows my requirements inside out and always has a solution ready where the lashing chains and lashing points are perfectly matched.”
ACP-TURNADO as the lashing point of choice
With the Scheuerle K25 L heavy-duty module, Helmut Alborn was therefore also certain from the outset that only lashing points from RUD would be considered. The ACP-TURNADO in nominal size M36 was chosen. In addition to the usual RUD quality, Alborn was particularly impressed by the huge lashing capacity. “There is no other lashing point on the market in the nominal size M36 that would be able to transfer a lashing capacity of 25,000 daN. For me, the ACP-TURNADO is therefore the ultimate”, the entrepreneur makes his position clear and adds: “with this lashing point and the heavy-duty module from TII Scheuerle, we have reached the status of load securing 4.0, so to speak.”
Outstanding lashing capacity
In fact, the lashing capacity of the ACP-TURNADO is around 30 per cent higher than that of lashing points of a comparable size. Made of high-strength steel and originally designed especially as a lifting point for lifting heavy loads, it is therefore also ideal for securing heavy loads. The central technical highlight of the ACP-TURNADO – the integrated spring mechanism that ensures that the lift bail always aligns in the direction of pull when it is lifted – also proves to be an advantage when lashing transport loads, as Alborn emphasises: “We like to use this self-alignment.” The lashing points are combined with RUD ICE grade 12 lashing chains with a lashing capacity of 25,000 daN.
Frame design of the heavy-duty module optimised for lashing points
Another argument in favour of the ACP-TURNADO for Alborn was the high flexibility it offers in addition to its high lashing capacity. As a boltable lashing point, it is never fixed in position but can be moved as required. However, in order to fully utilise this advantage, the frame of the heavy-duty module must not only have a sufficient number of through-holes, but also the necessary strength. TII Scheuerle therefore adapted the frame design to meet all the requirements for a highly stable attachment of the lashing points in close cooperation with RUD.
Successful test run under real practical conditions
In a test run on 12 February 2025, the lashing solution was then able to demonstrate its performance in practice for the first time. The Scheuerle K25 L platform trailer used by Alborn transported a 215 tonne test load, which had been secured using ACP-TURNADO lashing points and ICE lashing chains from RUD, reliably and without interruptions. The solution’s suitability for everyday use has therefore been fully proven. Helmut Alborn’s conclusion is satisfying indeed: “Knowing that this combination of heavy-duty module and lashing equipment meets all requirements gives me peace of mind – safe in that knowledge that I have achieved maximum safety for employees and customers. That is what I value most and am prepared to invest in the highest quality technology to achieve it.”
